COMPARISON OF CONVENTIONAL LINTED AND DELINTED COTTONSEED AS SUPPLEMENTS FOR LACTATING DAIRY COWS
Objectives: The objective of this research is to determine the relative nutritional value of conventional linted (fuzzy) cottonseed and delinted cottonseed in the diet of lactating dairy cows.
Approach: 76 Holstein cows (38 primiparous, 38 multiparous) in early lactation will be placed on a 2-wk pre-experimental diet between 4& 8-wks post-calving. After this period, cows will be placed on identical treatment diets, except one will contain 13% fuzzy cottonseed (dry basis); the other will contain 13% delinted cottonseed. Feed consumption, milk production, milk composition, body weight, & digestibility of the cottonseed will be determined over a period of 112 days. Health & reproductive records will also be obtained.
